About Naomi
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone, that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty.
~ Richard Lovelace 1618-1658
Hello, I am Naomi. My early years were spent in my family’s bookshop, where I quickly became a connoisseur of literature. I love books, the smell of them, and the feel of the new pages on my fingertips, the history in a page so fragile you are afraid that the very pressure of your breath will give it cause to crumble. I devour books, like one would an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. As a child I was always quiet and studious, my parents worried that I read too much and was too isolated from the world, however I was in a world of my own making. One where knights worshipped their ladies, lovers shed blood to possess the unattainable, ships were lost at sea, men waged great battles against their inner consciousness, and good did not always triumph over evil.
Blessed with a natural curiosity and avid imagination, I can often be found poking my nose into any number of dark shadows, searching for the light. My tastes run from the morbid musings of Poe, to the modern authors of today, and everywhere in between. I enjoy Steinbeck and Hemingway yet also indulge myself curled under the covers with the likes of Stephen King, JD Robb, Catherine Coulter, Nora Roberts and John Grisham. Poetry, while not my primary reading focus, has recently surprised me in its power and beauty as I continue my exploration of all the corners of the world. It always amazes me how someone has the power to take me to another plane of existence, make me fear for my life, fall in love, feel the pain of loss, and the triumph of success, without ever leaving the safety of my rooms and world. Recently I have been delving more into the realm of spirituality and religion, while trying to understand different aspects of cultures. Books on Buddhism, the Koran, Wiccan and the Bible are all in my to be read stack along with astrology, astronomy, horticulture and feng shui. As you can see, I attempt not to limit myself to any one thing, while trying to absorb all I can from the world we live in.
Hopefully this will give you a bit more insight into what makes me who I am, if you would like to know more, you have only to ask.
~ Naomi
